If you come here regularly, you'll know that a couple of weeks ago I did a mini "Book Review" of five self-help books that have had a positive impact on me in the last year. (No? Go read it here.)
I may or may not have mentioned in that post that I actually have a really hard time finishing self-help books. I know, I know! It's so bizarre given what I do for a living (Life Coach), but as a lifelong resister to being told what to do, I sometimes end up putting books of that particular genre down before I'm done.
I did finish all of the ones I recommended (Mostly. I think? Lol!) - most recently Thank and Grow Rich by Pam Grout. I have been all about her book the last couple weeks and thought it was worth sharing more about how a daily gratitude practice has totally shifted my attitude and has me paying attention to all the good things that are coming my way. Because really when you start paying attention and getting on what Grout calls the "Divine Buzz" frequency of gratitude? Life is abundant people. Really abundant!
Who knows why we pick up certain books - this one in particular was recommended to me by my coach when I presented to her an issue I was having regarding my thoughts around money. I'm pretty clear on the manifesting process, and that it generally works best when there is a free, gracious, "I wonder what would happen if . . .?" energy attached to our desires. And that's all fine and well, but I was finding it ridiculously difficult to find that happy, carefree place when it came to my financial flow. Consider the facts: I'm a single-ish mom, working three+ jobs, hustling to get my life-coaching business up & running - and despite my best efforts to be zen, there are just days when things do not feel easy, breezy, beautiful where my money is concerned. #truth
Which is where this book comes in. It's a quick and funny read (which I'm finding is the key to finishing those pesky self-help books!), and starts with a suggestion for a daily gratitude practice that takes about five minutes tops. That is followed by a series of gratitude exercises (which Grout calls "Party Games!" because no one ever does "exercises" - SO true!), coupled with examples of how those have manifested cool things in real life, both for herself and her readers. Who doesn't love real-life stories??
I've been doing the gratitude practice for the last couple of weeks - and here are some cool results:
The bottom line is that I feel better globally (about money and life in general . . .) and know that I'll keep up my daily practice even after 30 days are up . . . I am loving the fairy dust that Gratitude is sprinkling in my life - it's Magic!
Do you find yourself doing great in some areas of your life, but struggling in others? Perhaps a daily gratitude practice might help shift things just enough to start moving more easily all around. I recommend starting with Thank and Grow Rich, and if you want to build on what you learn there - I'm happy to help guide you with some Life Coaching!
