A few weeks ago I had the opportunity of a lifetime: to travel to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico to be the photographer for a Life Coaching retreat there.
It was the most amazing four days - where I had the opportunity to participate in the retreat, take pictures all day long (one of my passions!) and power through some of my limiting beliefs surrounding my skills as a photographer. What a GIFT!
However the few months leading up to my departure were pretty interesting in that they were riddled with minor illnesses (at least four . . . two of which required prescriptions), it was verging on ridiculous! As a normally very healthy person it felt kind of wrong to be at the doctors office three times in relatively short span - forking over $166.00 for the last urgent care visit just days before I was set to leave. Argh!
But then a wise soul said something to me about Shaman Sickness & I realized this was a-l-l just the Universe asking me "How bad do you want it?"
And the answer to that my friends is "I Got This!"
As I was winging my way to Mexico I was reading Jen Sincero's "You Are A Badass" on the plane & she was talking about this exact phenomenon - where she had a client whose new dream business had burned down, (they rebuilt!) & another who had been in a car accident & a bunch of other mishaps just as soon as they declared their new thing ... and they persevered! The Universe was asking them too & nothing got in their way.
I thought the timing was rather impeccable as my upper limiting was on full display right at that moment - which looked like: My flight to Mexico out of Houston was delayed due to bad weather, then canceled (after sitting on the runway for two hours), resulting in a lost (& gratefully found!) bag & ending the night in a hotel room with a spectacular upper-limit grand finale of an infected toe ... At which point I just had to laugh!
I gave that baby a hefty dose of Neosporin & bandaged it up with washi tape (as you do) & then had a moment of gratitude for being able to roll with these "obstacles" (with a minimum of crying) & for my boyfriend who handled the hotel arrangements while I searched for my almost-lost-then-found bag.
And gave a nod to The Universe.
How bad do I want it? Watch OUT!
Sometimes facing one hurdle after another can feel like maybe you shouldn't be doing the things that you most want. So how do you tell the difference??
Martha Beck says when you follow your dreams & are on the right path, these obstacles will feel scary in the same way that you might feel when standing on the edge of a clear glacial stream - just about to jump in. It's going to be COLD and REFRESHING, and TOTALLY WORTH IT.
When you're on the wrong path? Well that just feels like slogging through mud.
Are you sensing some upper limits in your life? How do those show up for you? Are they keeping you from your biggest desires and dreams? Is the Universe asking you "How Bad Do You Want It?" If you need some guidance on how to get from Point A (your current reality), to Point B (your ideal life) send me a note . . . I'm taking new clients!
